La Paz

24 April 2011
We sailed about half the distance from Los Muertos to La Paz on Thursday. The wind kept lifting us away from La Paz but fortunately when we tacked, the wind shifted 70 degrees and we were lifted up to the San Lorenzo Channel which runs between Isla Espiritu and the mainland.

Mike on So Inclined was in Marina Palmira in La Paz so we decided to park there too. This was our second stay at the marina and we enjoyed it last time. It’s a little out of town but the marina runs a frequent shuttle. After a nice dinner at La Panga, Bob and I did laundry. It’s much warmer here, about 95 degrees, so you want to get your chores done in the morning and evening.

Friday night we invited Harold and Lynn from Swift Current and Mike on So Inclined over for dinner to help us finish the dorado we caught a couple of days earlier. We planned to make a provision run the next morning and needed room in the freezer. Howard and Lynn are from Vancouver and it was interesting to hear their take on the US economy and recent politics.

Saturday Pacifico and Blue Rodeo arrived in the Marina. We invited them to hear a “Baja Bash” briefing from Mike Harris who is a delivery skipper. It was very informative.

Today is Easter Sunday and we are now motor sailing to Puerto Balandra which is a beautiful anchorage about 12 miles from La Paz. Mike is buddy boating with us. This marks the beginning of our exploration of the Sea of Cortez. Happy Easter to everyone!
