Beautiful Anchorage
11 May 2011 | San Juanico

Yesterday we sailed from Bahia Salinas to San Juanico which is about 40 miles away. The winds were very cooperative and we sailed on a close reach for most of the passage. By the time we reached the anchorage, it was 15-20 knots out of the north. There are 22 boats here but there's room for everyone. The anchorage offers very good protection from the north winds so many boats are hanging out as they journey north to San Carlos to haul out their boats. We will stay here another night.
There is a cruiser's shrine ashore where boats have left various momentos. Of course Sirocco left one too. I found a block of wood onboard and glued various seashells and other trinkets onto it. This bay is beautiful with turquoise waters and pinnacles rising out of the water. The water is a little chilly so we haven't tried snorkeling yet. Right now it is blowing 20 knots plus and more boats are coming into the anchorage. The veterans all say this northerly wind so late in the season is very unusual and frustrating as boats try to head north. San Juanico is the furthest north we plan to go so it's downhill for us from here, if the wind doesn't shift to the south.
