Puerto Rico

12 December 2009 | Puerto Rico
It has certainly been a long time since my last update. It was a long five month stay in the Dominican Republic waiting for the hurricane season to end. I left and made my way to Puerto Rico, where I've been now for over a month. I plan to go back and update the website further and add pictures of the journey. I'm currently on the island of Culebra. It's one of the islands that make up the Spanish Virgins. I plan to take the next weather window and head for St Thomas where I plan on doing some needed repairs. Beyond that I hope to stick around the American Virgins and BVI's for awhile. It's good sailing, and I'm in no rush.

The picture is of me in Old San Juan. Anyone who has seen the movie Captain Ron will remember the part where they are in San Juan for Carnival. The wall, and small pier are the scene where the party takes place, and the large gate in the wall is also seen in the movie. Remember, "if it's going to happen, it's going to happen out there."

Please feel free to email me at marcweiser@aol.com, or for the time you can call me on my US number of 520-977-4512.

Arrive Dominican Republic

29 May 2009 | Luperon DR
Pulling in to the Dominican Republic after five months in the Bahamas was a very different experience. The very desolate atoll style of the Bahamas, as well as the Turks and Caicos, is completely opposite of the volcanic mountains of the DR. It was green, cool, and so nice to pull in. I actually got to the mouth of the harbor around 4am, after leaving at 10am the day before. I waited offshore for the sun to come up and allow me to see the reefs that line the coast.

Red Sky When?

24 May 2009 | Ambergris Cay
"Red sky at night, Sailors delight. Red sky in the morning, Sailors take warning." This is a centuries old saying that holds remarkably true. This pic is a SUNRISE, and could not have defined bad weather any better. We were stuck in the Ambirgris for several days.

Starfish Hat

23 May 2009 | Ambergris Cay
This little guy was not happy with my decision to make him part of my hat. I'm happy to report that he was safely returned to his home in Ambergris Cay.

Columbus Fleet

I couldn't help but be reminded of the Columbus fleet. I think Opal is the Pinta.

New Anchor

09 May 2009 | San Salvador
I've been thinking about getting a larger anchor for Opal. I think this would do it.
