We're home!

20 October 2007 | Lancaster, VA
Coming out of Mill Creek, we were concerned about a small craft advisory that was supposed to be in effect, but we had a nice sail down the bay in moderate wind. The wind kept getting lighter and lighter until we finally had to furl the sails and motor up the Rappahanock River in glassy water conditions. Jim Bearden hailed us on the VHF and welcomed us home as we passed under the Rt. 3 bridge - he was with a group of race boats drifting out in the river waiting for the wind to return. We turned up the Corrotoman River, then Myer Creek, and pulled into our dock. It's great to be home!

Sailing down the bay - Mill Creek, VA

19 October 2007 | Mill Creek, Great Wicomico River, VA
Again, we were tempted to head all the way home, but the wind was from the south and a small craft advisory was forecast. Mill Creek is one of our favorite anchorages - quiet and scenic, so we had a chance to have one last beautiful evening on Skyusky.

Sailing down the bay - Pax River, MD

18 October 2007 | Mill Creek, Patuxent River, MD
We were tempted to sail at night and head all the way home, but the wind was piping up in the wrong direction. As we were coming up the river to the anchorage, the Patuxent Naval Air Station gave us an air show with helicopters, Ospreys, F-18s, and a C-130.

Sailing down the bay - near Annapolis, MD

17 October 2007 | Selby Bay, South River, MD
We are finally back in the Chesapeake Bay. And as usual, the wind is from the wrong direction so it is slow going. Anchored in Selby Bay just south of Annapolis where there is a nice anchorage and fuel dock nearby.

Running with the current

16 October 2007 | Bohemia River, MD
Got an early start with perfect wind and timing with the current for the best day we have had so far. Headed through the Cape May canal, up Delaware Bay using both headsails, through the C&D canal, and anchored in the Bohemia River just before sunset. Now we are in familiar waters and are getting anxious to get home.
