Long weekend at Santa Cruz

We had a great weekend sailing to Santa Cruz (Prisoneer's Cove). We left Phoenix Thursday night and arrived at the boat about 11:30. Friday morning we provisioned, got a new cooler, fishing pole, bait and tackle. We headed for the island at about 1:00pm with 15 knot winds. Since we were tring to get to Prisoneers' before dark, I kept the engine running and we were making between 6 and 7 knots. There were 5 to 6 foot swells right on our nose. Bouncy ride. Kyle slept most of the way down below. When he got up he was a little seasick. On the way out, around the oil platforms, I caught a 2.f foot barracuda that we lost tring to gaff it. We made anchore at 8:15 and cooked steaks and fished. It was a rocky night with big swells slamming the boat (very little sleep). In the morning the seas were calm and we drift fished from Prisoneers to Chinees Harbor. We caught a lot of bait fish and a CA Skate. No keepers. We headed for the docks at about 4:00pm with 10 knot winds. Very nice sail with the wind at our backs and calm seas. Great time. Kyle and Chris had a good time. We saw several pods of dolphins, lots of seals, and pelicans.
