Eerily Calm
30 October 2011 | Montauk
It is eerily calm in the marina tonight at Montauk where we took cover for the storm. We can actually hear each other talk and walk straight without banging into things. Plus, we should be able to sleep tonight and in our bed without having to go up on deck every hour to adjust lines, fenders and make sure our boat is riding OK. We ended up with one blown fender, some varnish damage to the toerail and a chafed dockline after having been pinned to the dock in 40-50 knot winds for hours. That's lucky. It would've felt really lonely in here if it weren't for having the company of Tim & Nathan off off Slick who are traveling with us. We literally were the only four people around anywhere. It has been fun hanging out together. We're not the only crazy people still up here in November!
Tomorrow we are planning to head up Long Island Sound together since there is another gale coming for Tuesday- not enough time to get to Cape May. At least we'll be making some progress and moving. That is something!
