Sorry for the blog vacation but we've been on the road with the car. We've been up Australia's highest mountain and in to the boiler of the Outback. Lots of pics to upload eventually.... Best wishes to everyone for a great holiday. I asked a local if here, Santa still comes from the north pole. I was told yes, so..... that means he'll come all the way down here first, then turn back for the USA I guess....
Hello! We are Heather & Jon Turgeon of S/V Evergreen. We started sailing in 1994 on our first boat, a Cape Dory 31, then sought out a Tashiba 40 that could take us around the globe. It has been our home for 19 years. We've thoroughly cruised the East coast and Caribbean and just completed our [...]
version of a 6 1/2 year circumnavigation in May 2018. It started in Maine with the usual "coconut milk run" across the Pacific, followed by New Zealand, Australia and SE Asia. Then we shipped Evergreen from Thailand to Greece so we could tour the Mediterranean & experience a completely different cruising ground. What a fantastic ride its been!
Along the trip back, we purchased a 1988 Mercedes Benz 1120AF fire truck from Sweden and had it shipped to the USA. We are nearly finished converting this truck to an overland RV for another round the world trip- this time by land. We are very excited about this project and are slowly developing a website named VermonsterRV.com to share our experiences in this next chapter.
The Sailblogs post dated 2/1/18 titled "Six Years and 29 Countries" is a summary of our round the world trip and what meant the most to us. In November, 2019 we sold Evergreen to a lovely couple who plan to go cruising on her. It was difficult to let go, but we also knew that we couldn't take care of two vehicles! We are now moved into our new rolling home and ready to hit the road!
