Life on the Rio

Heather
I'm getting flashbacks from the weeks of day in and day out boat projects before we left on this cruise! We've pretty much been busting our butts trying to get our long list of projects done so we can start having fun. The boat is looking shinier again and we now have one of two awnings made to help keep it looking that way. We'll make the other one tomorrow. The heat is incredible and we find that after sweating gallons, we just don't feel that good! So we're trying to get out very early and do whatever we have to do in the sun, then get the heck out of it and work on sewing or whatever in the shade or inside with the AC on. We have a lot more to do but this is a beautiful place to be doing it in, aside from the heat.

Evenings have been great hanging out with other cruisers but they are leaving to head home, one by one. It sure is going to get quiet around here!

When Jon headed into town today, he saw the Land Rover of the couple we met and hung out with in Copan. Paul, Gill and their son Eliot, are from Kenya and had their vehicle shipped to South America so they could tour their way through the various countries and then on up through Central America. We thought we may meet up again but it's always a surprise to do so. Jon brought them to the boat today so we could visit for a little while. They had a friend visiting them named Ed, who came too. Four year old Eliot is extremely bright and funny with a strong British accent (Paul & Gill are British)even though he's been living in Kenya. When Jon asked him if he knew any Spanish, he said "Si!". When he arrived at the boat today, he greeted me with a bouquet of hibiscus flowers that he picked for me. I wish I could borrow him for a while!

One thing that we keep remarking about is how we've met so many interesting people on this cruise. People who are really getting out there and seeing the world and on a budget too.

We're trying to plan a little getaway from all this boat work- it's time for a vacation! There are so many interesting places to go that we can't decide, given the short amount of time we have. Antigua is beckoning the strongest...

Hello! We are Heather & Jon Turgeon of S/V Evergreen. We started sailing in 1994 on our first boat, a Cape Dory 31, then sought out a Tashiba 40 that could take us around the globe. It has been our home for 19 years. We've thoroughly cruised the East coast and Caribbean and just completed our [...]
