North Sound is the home of the Bitter End Yacht Club a world class water sports and resort destination. It is a great big, really well protected bay with lots of mooring balls! This would be our jumping off point for our trip to Anegada, the BVIs second largest island.
The Bitter End Yacht Club (and resort) reminds me a lot of the resort in the movie 'Dirty Dancing' - a family oriented place dedicated to make your stay memorable. I do have to admit, we have only stayed at mooring balls offshore, but walking through the resort you feel like you have been sucked into the tropical verison of the movie. There is a bulletin/white board with the days activities listed, you pass by the outdoor 'theater' where they show movies every night, and there is staff everywhere to make your stay memorable - whether it is organizing sand castle contests, yoga classes, or lessons sailing small hobie cats. It is all quite charming!
As we tied off to our mooring ball, a guest learning to sail a hobie cat (with his instructor) ran into us and after scraping down our side from stern to bow capsized in front of us. I'm sure the gentleman was sincerely embarrassed by all of the drama, but no damage was inflicted and we enjoyed the entertainment! Normally, we try to get to North Sound early in the day, not because we are worried about getting a mooring ball, but because we want a good seat to watch the entertainment as the charter boats come in and try to catch a mooring ball! It's cruel I know, but we were the entertainment once!
We all spent the afternoon walking through the resort and shopping. Watching the windsurfers in the bay, Leslie told us about her days windsurfing in the San Francisco Bay. While I do not think Leslie would put it this way, I think she is/was a very accomplished athlete! Barry and I are mere couch potatoes in comparison! I forgot to mention Bob also puts us to shame, he rocks. We are aspiring to be as fit as Bob and Leslie!
