Sightseeing in the Fog
22 August 2016 | Bar Harbor, Mount Desert Island, Maine

We left our friends in Tanner Cove near Lunenburg, Nova Scotia and began our 31-hour sail back to Maine. Visibility was good until we rounded the southern tip of Nova Scotia and then the fog rolled in. By now we were a bit more comfortable feeling our way through the fog using radar and AIS, but as we approached the Maine Coast the fog thickened and so did the lobster trap floats. With about 100 feet of visibility, we inched our way into the anchorage at Bar Harbor and picked up a mooring using the lat/long coordinates that the harbormaster had given us over the VHF. We could barely see the boat moored next to us and then in the fog we heard the loud speaker of a whale watching boat going out for a tour. Best of luck guys!
