Waiting for a Weather Window - Saying Goodbye to Maine
26 August 2016 | Rockland, Maine
Gaff rigged ketch sailing at dusk in Rockland, ME Harbor
The prevailing winds off this part of the East Coast are from the southwest, exactly where we want to go, so we need to wait for a weather window when the winds are light or the direction changes. This wait has given us time to visit our friends and former neighbors, Sue & Sam, who have a vacation home in Winter Harbor on the Schoodic Peninsula. We took them for a brief sail in the picturesque harbor and then shared a meal at a local restaurant. It was good to finally see the part of the world they had been telling us about for many years.
We made a final stop at Michael & Laura's house in Islesboro and then went on to Rockland to get supplies and wait for that weather window to show its face.
We enjoyed our time in Maine, but cannot say that it is a sailor's paradise with the cold water and lobster traps, but we're glad we checked this off our bucket list. It was certainly worth the effort.
