Curiser Potluck & Mexican Wedding

21 February 2010 | San Blas Mexico
Jodee
Saturday Feb 20th was laundry, flea market, water run and cruiser pot luck night. I opted to do laundry while Russ made a trip in town to the flea market for starfruit and a few other items you might find at a flea market. When I got to the laundry all machines were full and had stopped. I waited 15 minutes before taking the clothes out so I could start my washing. Peter from the vessel "The Delphis" came by and we were talking and I found out he had a Acer computer problem. Yes, you guessed it right, he went and got his computer and dvd burner/player. While the clothes were in the dryer we played computer technicians. When he booted the computer the screen was hard to see and the cursor would not move. I figured out how to make the screen brighter but with out the cursor we could not do much. Peter then went to his boat and retrieved an external mouse. This worked so that means that the touch pad is disabled. His computer kept locking up. He did not have any virus protection installed because he did not go on line with it. He thinks his son may have gone on line once. He asked me if I knew how to use the recovery discs and if so could we do that.

For those of you who don't know how to do this I am going to tell you how I did it.
First, make sure you have the first recovery disc is in the CD Rom
Second, when the computer is booting press F2 to go into setup when prompted
Third, find where the boot command list is and move the "CD Rom" to the top of
the list then save and exit.
The computer then booted from the recovery disc.
Follow the instructions on the screen.

We now have the computer back up and running and yet still no touch pad. Peter check to find out how to enable the touch pad and found out that it did not have the driver installed. He then put the drivers disc in the CD Rom to load the drivers. In the middle of loading drivers it froze there was an error and the computer had to be shut down and rebooted. When rebooted the computer recognized the usb device with an error of "USB Device Malfunctioned". To test this we plugged a flash drive into the same usb port and it worked fine. I then loaded the AVG antivirus onto the computer. I loaned Peter our little external burner and he is loading all his software from the burner to flash drives. At least he is up and running.
Amazing enough he went to town to look for an external dvd burner/player and found it here in San Blas. Who would have thought? The cost was 1,278 pesos (which is about $106.50). I am blown away that one was even available here.

Now we move on to the cruisers pot luck. We are having a potluck upstairs and on the lawn there is a wedding. The potluck attendees are 5 males and me. Two of the boats had already prepared food for the pot luck when the bride and groom wanted to have pictures on their boats and after the pictures were taken they sent drinks down to the boat and the bride and groom invited them to the wedding. They brought the food they prepared to the potluck. We had good food as usual and then evening entertainment. After dinner we moved to the other side of the building and watch the wedding from above. It was a high dollar classy event. There must have been at least 400 people there. There three tall carnival costumes, confetti, balloons, two bands, catering and open bar. I would guess this wedding no less than $10,000. It was fun to watch. At about 10:30 we boarded the dinghy and motored home and watched a movie. The party is still going on.

Today is a computer day. I brought up google earth and printed out the entrance to the estuary. The other day Russ and Peter went out and mapped the entrance and Russ is transferring it onto the google earth printout. We will then send it to Rich on Thirdday so he can add it to the guide. Other than that I am working on the log/blog.
