Tuesday April 27 is departure day for Mazatlan. We left at 12:01 pm in order to plan a sunrise arrival and high tide over Mazatlan bar entrance. We arrive at sunrise and averaged 4.5 knots for the entire trip, being 1.5 hours early for high tide we had less water under our keel than desired. This leg was a very enjoyable sailboat ride. We sailed for half the trip constantly trying to slow the boat down with two reefs in the main and 75% jib out, still punching six knots. The swell was 4-5 feet on the beam, winds were 12-15 knots on the beam. With those conditions there was a max heel of 10 degrees. Can you believe 100 miles on the same tack? This sail will be remembered for many a year, especially after the thrashing we took from San Blas to Isla Isabella. Let's hear it for IOR Lead Sleds.
