An ocean going catamaran

Todd Leaves the Crew

Todd left us today. It was a bummer but he had to get back to Virginia so we took him out to a goodbye
dinner, a carrot cake dessert and some last minute shopping before meeting up with the officials to take
him off of the crew list. He flew out at 8PM for Bogota, where he will crash for a few hours then on to
San Jose, Costa Rica (where we started!), on to Houston and finally on to Dullas around the same time he
left the day before. Gnarly flight. We had heard there were non-stops to Miami twice a week but I think
that may have been pre covid.

It was a weird day. There was very little wind but lots of overcast and rain. Today was a departure
candidate for us now that the Low has turned into just a nasty band of thunderstorms. However, had we
left today we would have likely run into it heading to Grand Cayman. We are now planning to leave
Saturday to let the nastier storms get out of our path. We'll see how it goes. We are so far behind at this
point that we will probably sail straight through. It should be 6 days to the Dry Tortugas if we go slow or 4
days if we have the wind (and at present it looks like we should have more than enough!).

We got some work done on the boat, using some of the tanks we filled yesterday. Carl did his first
confined water dive for his Open Water cert and we got the port prop and hull nice and clean. The
starboard is in pretty good shape but I'm going to give it another once over tomorrow to ensure
maximum slipperiness.

We have really fallen in love with the Sea Watch Caffe (sic) [where we took Todd tonight]. They serve
breakfast all day (waffles, pancakes, omelets) and they have Italian stuff, great pizzas and burgers,
crepes (savory and sweet), milk shakes, desserts and more. The Bread Fruit bakery is yummy too. No
shortage of good breakfast spots here. My kind of town.
