Mantanchen Bay/ San Blas - A great place/fun stop
10 December 2010 | 21 30.9'N:105 14.4'W, On our way to Punta Mita
We anchored in Mantanchen Bay for three nights--another beautiful place. It's a large, peaceful bay--mostly flat--though we had a few rolly times. A good stop, aplace to play tourist, and met up with Pacifico here last night. We are now on our way with Sirocco to Punta Mita (~50nm) for the night and then on to La Cruz. Already we have seen several groups of whales.
Our first morning ashore at Matanchen Bay we met Ismael and had a great breakfast of shrimp cooked with bacon, onions, pepper, tomoatoe with cheese on top. Tpgether with beans, avacodo and tortillas it was a delicious meal. We locked up our dinghies there and took a ride from Ismael's son in the back of his pick up into San Blas.
San Blas is a nice, relatively small mexican town. We explored around the town square, saw the old church, and met up at a local hangout called the social club which was run by a couple NY'ers who fligh back to the states duing summer. We got the scoop and some of the sights in the area. There we also met Billy Bob (another ex-pat) who ran another bar down the street where we visited later and saw "fluffy" a crocodile in the back. There I tried my luck again at the internet--those of you following my blog know how my luck runs--spotty at best--at least with the internet ;) We visited the social club a couple more times during our visit. Such is life in San Blas.
The next day Bob and I played tourist. We started the day out early with a 7A jungle tour where we traveled thorugh the mangroves and saw lots of different birds, pants and crocodiles. The tour went up river to a natural spring where water is also tapped and pumped int San Blas. The resteraunt wasn't open at that hour and it was a bit too cold for a swim--but we had the place to ourselves. A fun adventure.
We also visited the fort, cemetary, museum--and the social club again. Except for the bug bites (note: Bob had observing the way of life and the friendly people.
The visit was topped off with Pacifico arriving yesterday afternoon. We all had a spaghetti dinner on Sirroco last night before So Inclined and Sirocco left for Punta Mita. I had to move on so I can meet up with my daughter and her boyfriend in a couple of days. Pacifico probably won't be far behind and I am looking forward to spending Christmas together with my daughter and friends in PV.
