Heading to Panama

Our original plan had us going from Jamaica to Cuba. But as we were enjoying our time in Jamaica and we had received a few recent bad report on Cuba we decided to stay longer in Jamaica and miss out Cuba. When it was time book out of Jamaica I explained to the immigration officer that we had spent longer [...]

Jamaica mon

With Sue back in Curacao we provisioned for the sail north to Jamaica, said goodbye to new friends, and motored away from Curacao Marine. As we entered to channel to exit Curacao harbour we called the Port Authority on VHF to ask them to open the bridge, but no answer. After a number of failed attempts [...]

Back in the water

I arrived back in Curacao on 24 Jan to get work done on Sojourn 1 before Sue arrived. I was surprised by the number of people who were staying at the marina on their boats. Most were waiting for the weather to improve with others waiting on work or parts. A large number of different nationalities were [...]

Haul out at Curacao

Time to catch up on the blog. A lot has happened since the last blog but I'll try to cover off on the important points of our cruising adventure.

Back to Cruising

15 May 2018
Once the guys headed back to Australia Sue and I wasted little time heading south. To meet our boat insurance limitations we need to be below 12deg 9min by 1st June. That is, we need to be out of the hurricane zone. Our first stop heading south was Le Saints, a French island. Immediately we realised we were back among the cruising community - and happy about it.
After talking with a Canadian couple moored next to us we headed into town for a look around and sometime to eat/drink. Lots of tourists and the associated shops but still a nice place.
Next stop was Dominican. Dominica had been devastated by a hurricane late in 2017 and was struggling to recuperate. Following the advice of one of the guide books we are using, we used on the local guys to help us pick up one of his moorings and paid accordingly. We visited the fort complex on the headland. Contrasting with most of the town this area was extremely well maintained and showed little sign of damage. Having said this they had obviously decided to not maintain all areas of the complex. We stayed two nights there before heading to Martinique.
