Crater Bay again

Local market.
We have managed to get most of the diesel we need and have been able to buy water for the boat. We just schlepp a few liters every day to fill the tanks and get the laundry done. I asked about getting someone to do the laundry but there are no washing machines around here. It is hand done and then put out on the rocks to dry. Having seen some of the water, we just decided to schlepp water to the boat and use the washing machine. It is really hard on clothes to have them beat up on the rocks to get them clean. Maybe another time. We took a walk down the local village, Dar Se Lam. It seems to have more wealth (comparatively speaking) than other villages we have seen at more remote locations. This is probably in part due to the tourist industry that this island has and an expat community of retired folks from various places around the world. But mainly France and South Africa. They still transport people and goods via zebu drawn carts. The roads are still rough and homes are roughly constructed. After a rain, the whole place becomes a mud quagmire. We spent one evening eating Pizza and Lemon Meringue with Frank and Karen from Tahina to help them celebrate 26 years of Marriage. The yacht club was certainly a big draw for most in the anchorage.
