Lamentin, Martinique

23 December 2015
Trying to finish a sunshade.
We eventually moved around to Fort De France, the capital of Martinique. Our first anchorage was at Lamentin, not far from the airport. This anchorage is known for being a hurricane haven, meaning a calm place within the mangroves. It was certainly a very calm anchorage, surrounded by mangroves and the industrial port. It was a very active yacht club but miles from anywhere. We did venture ashore and had to walk 1.5 kms through the mangroves to get anywhere. It certainly took us through the “other” side of Martinique but we made it to a major shopping center. As we were restricted by what we could carry, our shopping was limited. We m it back to the yacht club and even then they had not opened for the evening. We did send a day doing some chores as it was so calm but realized it was a long walk for the fresh baguette, so after some laundry and chores, we motored around to the main town, Fort De France.
