Nevis

Charlestown, Nevis.
Our next stop was Nevis. We picked up a mooring outside the town and checked in. This took about an hour, even though they have the computerized system of checking in. I think I have finally figured out that the electronic checking in process cuts down our filling of forms by about half. It certainly hasn’t changed anything else. Oh well, the concept is good. Charlestown, the main town, is just quaint architecture left over from the English and the French. It seems that they have done what they can to preserve most of it and the old buildings seem to make up the towns and villages. Given that nearby St Kitts gets at least one cruise ship a day in the season, I am sure there is sufficient income for this country to be able to maintain this quaint infrastructure. We moved north about a mile and picked up another mooring along Pinney beach; now we were set up for New Year. We met up with 4 young people: Daniel, Ilona, Roderich, and Lucas, from Germany on a 6 week charter and had a couple of very enjoyable evenings with them. As they were from Cologne, they gave me a gift of cologne, something they do to help people remember them. We had such a good time, we couldn’t forget anyway. We first met them at Montserrat. After enjoying a Killer Bee Cocktail at the Sunshine Beach bar, we were back on the boat to watch the fireworks. We had the advantage of seeing at least 6 fireworks displays to welcome in the New Year, including the one right in front of us. The view is always different from the water and very enjoyable, as we didn’t have far to fall when we were done for the night. Welcome 2016 and a very happy and prosperous New Year to all our friends and family. Once again, we had to raise a toast to each and every one of you.
