Iles de Saintes, Guadeloupe
07 March 2016
The Doctors House, a great landmark.
From Deshaies, we had a rather pleasant sail down to Iles Des Saintes, an island group at the bottom of Guadeloupe. We spent one night at Pain de Sucre, an out of the way anchorage and just enjoyed the quietness and peacefulness of the secluded bay. We got up early the next day to find a mooring buoy outside Bourg Des Saintes, as anchoring is not permitted close in. For once we got lucky, we found an empty mooring buoy near the front, out of the main swell that inflicts this anchorage. Even though there are over 70 moorings, they always seem to be full. As we sat and watched, there were always boats cruising around and waiting for someone to leave. Much like the mall parking lot 2 days before Christmas. On shore was another of those quaint old French towns. Much of this town had been maintained over the years so has a very unique charm. Most of the streets are too narrow for cars so electric style golf carts and scooters abound. We took the obligatory walk up to one of the local forts and yet we are still love the views that we get. After a few days here, it was time to move on.
