Kingstown, St Vincent
21 March 2016
We did another poor-mans tour of Kingstown, the capital of St Vincent’s and took the local ferry across the channel to the mainland. The ferry looked like a North Sea reject but it seemed to float and move. Still, we always like an outside seat on local ferries and we always seem to be seated next to the life jackets. Kingstown is the town of many arches, as it seems to have more churches than rum bars. Some of them are incredibly grand and seem to step right out of the Middle Ages. The size and grandiosity seemed out of character with the size of the country and number of people. Most of them were also in need of some restoration, even though they are still all in use today. It was an interesting town, with many street side vendors selling everything from underwear to CD’s to local produce. Typical of many local towns.
