So I did some more research today and found that there is a National Company that makes Solar reflectors but they use their own proprietary mirrors called Alubond. It has the same reflectance as good old cheap 3mm Mirror that I used on my prototype. but is unbreakable and expensive. 3mm mirror is about $4.00/ sq.ft WAY CHEAPER than a single piece of Alubond. The only thing missing is a cheap way to mount the mirrors on either side of your solar panels. Which I am getting prices for as we speak. These MIRRORS result in a 260% increase in the output of ANY of your solar PV panels. I am also building them for our sailboat that fold up when underway to protect the panels. So this is a quick Pic of the heart of the system. Mirrors or polished aluminum, stainless steel, plexi mirror or tinfoil it all works. Just mount a baffle at the rear of the panel and connect a computer fan with a diode, to blow on the backside of the panel to help keep the temperature down a bit at noon, it TRIPLES the output of ANY panel. I stole this Great idea from Australia. But if you look closely at the idea of using mirrors to increase efficiency is one that I tried on single panel but modified it on my prototype to adjust mirror angles for optimum sun gathering over the course of 6 Hrs. of daylight. I have doubled the output and Watt/Hrs. gathered with no complicated tracking system, or fancy electronics. This time NO smoke ....JUST MIRRORS. at Approx. 60 degrees off the panel it doubles the output, the sweet spot for reflecting the suns rays at noon TRIPLES the output. Maybe this is a Better way for us to go instead of swallowing that 50% increase Hydro is going to shove down our collective throats. I priced out quickly 1-150 watt panel for a house will replace one 15 amp circuit. With the nessasary batteries and inverter would cost less than a $1000.00...... times your current hydro bill by 12 months. Its just common sense/Cents. I will TELL you How to do this FREE. Hey great news!
We just took the Dinghy out and tried to Kill the battery with a long trip. I brought along the GPS to see how she would perform. Well the good news is that even when the battery is flat dead at 11 volts, the Solar panels still puts out enogh juice that the boat still keeps moving along at 2 knots. The surprise is that on a full charge the dinghy's speed is 3.3 knots (or 3.5 MPH.) The other surprise was we went all the way to Harriot Bay and back with a average speed of 2.5 knots!!! which is still faster than I row!!For a total distance of 3 nautical miles!and after that it just runs off the sun!!! The perfomance is very similar to our old 3hp Merc. Except that I dont have to fill her up! the sun does that for us and was completely recharged the next day by lunchtime.

My wife and I are so excited about this simple and efficient solution to a stinky and HEAVY Outboard motor, that we have decided to Manufacture Solar+ mounting and wiring kits for dinghys so everone can GO GREEN and leave that stinker on the back rail. The motor is a 30lb. thrust electric Minn-Kota from West Marine ( About $130.00). The battery is a cheap group 72 from Canadian Tire in the battery box up front (about $75.00). Our kits will include the Solar panel, mounting kit, screws, voltage controller and wiring harness to finish out your MAINTENANCE FREE energy package!!
