South of Sri Lanka

We said a sad farewell to Skylark 2 with whom we have sailed the last 1000 miles. Their autpilot was giving them concern so they decided to divert to Galle, Sri Lanka whilst we continued on our roller coaster passage to the Maldives. The winds are good 20 knots from the NE but the sea is extremely confused with a 2-3 m swell making it a very uncomfortable passage. We are not making the speeds we did yesterday as we need to put up more sail but the thought of heading into this sea to increase sail is just out of the question.

Our course is taking us westwards around 60 odd miles south of Sri Lanka before we start to head northwestwards to the top of the Maldives. All is well on board.

Vessel Name: Songster
Vessel Make/Model: Oyster 39
Hailing Port: Dartmouth, UK
Crew: Brian Palmer and Jackie Oakey
About:
Since 1997 Brian and Jackie have cruised thousands of miles in Songster and decided whilst cruising the Eastern Med to head west to the Caribbean. At that point of time there was no plan to circumnavigate - but the lure of new adventures and exotic places was a great incentive. [...]
Extra: Until 2009 we had a sleeping crew - two elderly Burmese cats, Henry and Lily. Sadly Henry died in April 2009 and Lily was unable to cope without him. After much trauma for us both Lily was put to sleep in Darwin at the end of June 2009.
