Day 3

18 April 2007
Cass
We turned the motor off this afternoon. Ahhhh....We put up the drifter, main, and mizzen sails and are cruising along at 5-6 kn. The wind is coming out of the NE at 7-10kn. What happened to our 15-20 out of the SE? Silly trades seem to be confused.

Just got an email from Alex on Namaste who is a mere 400ish miles away from Hiva Oa and he recommends that we go way south as soon as possible. He beat his brains out for 10 days trying to get west. I'd rather not be stuck in crap and I'm glad there are people doing this right ahead of us so we can go after the good stuff.

It rained drizzle style all night but cleared up late this morning. We've had a lazy afternoon. I did a couple of loads of laundry after some ghetto yoga on the foredeck. I'm about to dust off the weights and try to get into a routine. The only thing I miss about land is running on it. I feel like a kid who really wants to go out and play with all this pent up energy. Ironically, it's quite hard to get motivated on the boat. The rocking is seductive. It says "drink a tasty beverage and take a nap," not "let's do the dishes, lift weights, and learn French!"

I'm writing this with Jack Johnson in the background. I uploaded about 1,000 new songs from my friends in the Galapagos. What a lovely thing it is to expand one's music library. I have a whole new appreciation for bluegrass and old country.

If we keep this pace up we should be there in a little over two weeks. I have no problem with that as long as we start to catch some fish. I feel a sunset mahi mahi coming on

Cheers to Tim the wonder-webmaster Cass
