Day eight
22 April 2007
Cass
Today gave us mostly blue skies and 10-15kn out of the SE. The breeze should freshen up to 15-20kn in the next three days according to a GRIB file dad downloaded this afternoon. Awesome news for us and those members of the fleet behind us. We haven't seen our buddies Guava Jelly since we left, but know that they are in fair winds and following seas.
This evening's sunset was a doozey. It was overcast and we had blown off the chance of a Pacific Sundown Special...but, man, were we wrong. The picture doesn't quite do it justice, but you get the idea.
We will hit halfway tomorrow around happy hour. I haven't thought of a way to celebrate or commemorate. Maybe we'll write a little diddy. Maybe we'll just say "YAY! We're halfway!" Neither one of us is in a big hurry. Seven days, twelve days, whatever. As long as we're having fun, right?
We've been studying maps and discussing a rough itinerary of our route through the islands. Mom is supposed fly into Tahiti in June or July. In October we were planning on going to Australia but have begun to consider New Zealand. Our plans, like us, have become more and more flexible.
We are getting into a comfortable routine of staying out of one another's way and accomplishing what we individually set out to do. I don't know when we started communicating or how but, damn, it's nice.
We are voyaging with a waxing moon. I highly recommend this "every night is brighter than the last" approach to crossing an ocean.
Cheers to all you instant messengers Cassandra
BTW: He just yelled at me about the compass and chart plotter having different headings. I retract the earlier comment about a breakthrough in communication.
