Wistfully Reminescing About a Formerly Anxious Morning

(from Nathan) The position reports are in. ET, an Antrim 27, seems to have worked their *** off and corrects out to first in division as of today. Sapphire, a 30' Synergy 1000, blew by several of us boat for boat (235 mile daily run vs our second-best 211 with several others trailing closely). We think that we had similar wind conditions and were pretty powered up, but I'm not sure where we could have found an extra 1kt average over the course of the day (vs our 8.8 kts). On the bright side, we've been consistently faster than the other Olson 40 so far on the downwind. Everyone's having a good time, anyway. We'll see what we can do today and the rest of the race. The weather conditions seem stable at this point so from here on out it might be mostly about boatspeed rather than positioning. Everyone's more or less settled into a "lane", and now you go in a loose arc around the Pacific High until you find the exit angle you want.
