Spain -Summer 2014 - Gijon

Gijon (pronounced He Hon) is a busy tourist town (there was a fiesta/local produce show on all the time we were there) but its not tacky, seems to be mostly Spaniards who visit and the marina was surprisingly empty. There was no problem getting a berth even though this was 31st July. (E38.00 per night but we had a TransEuro discount card) The staff are helpful and you can hire cheap bikes to cycle round the bay which is worth the trouble. Customs came aboard here and were very efficient and pleasant. This was the only ‘officialdom’ we saw the whole time in Spain.
We had a couple of pleasant evenings in the company of Highland Daughter (Carol & Gordon) who were travelling north and passed on good advice from their trip, enjoyed tapas with the locals in a basic bar/restaurant (portions are big, don't order too many platers) bought fresh fish in the indoor fish market (upstairs above the supermarket) - local sardines and slices of bonito were wonderful marinated and barbecued.
