Spain Summer 2014 - Luarca

Left Gijon after refuelling in marina and motorsailed in light westerly winds and moderate swell along the coast to Luarca. A small town with an internal harbour for local boats and four mooring bouys in the outer harbour for visitors. You pick up the bouy on your stern and moor with long lines ashore to the high concrete sea wall. Had read about swell affecting these moorings but we had no trouble the 3 days we were there. We liked this place, the moorings were free, the camaraderie amongst the French and Dutch boats alongside was good and the town is attractive. The local youngsters play on the wall in the days sun and the locals fish off the wall in the evenings. We had an expensive and very moderate meal in the restaurant on the top floor of the block overlooking the moorings - not worth it even for the great view of the boats.
