Spain Summer 2014 - Camarinas

From A Coruna we had a good sail to Camarinas, we had intended to stop at Corme but with good winds we decided to carry on and the trip took about 8 hours mostly in a NE4/5. Stronger winds came up in the last hour and we entered the harbour in 27kts. The marina here is small and this was the only time one looked crowded suggesting we wouldn't have been able to get in should we have wanted to. We had already decided to anchor if it was possible and the area off the beach, to port, halfway up the bay had reasonable shelter and depths. We stayed here for three days as some heavy weather blew through, in the anchorage we had regular winds above 20kts but the holding was good and we had no problems. The marina management were very pleasant and happy for us to leave the dinghy there for shopping trips, there is a good bar/cafe on shore and the town is worth a walk around with a couple of small supermarkets. When we arrived there were only two other boats, one of which was another British yacht, we met up with Ollie on Soulage who had sailed across from the Scillies singlehanded and was fulfilling his dream of sailing off to warmer waters. By the time we left there were 5/6 other boats in what was becoming a crowded area. This is a pleasant looking bay and I'm sure we would have done more if the winds hadn't kept us on board most of the time.
