Spain Summer 2014 - Ria de Arousa

Light NE winds for our sail from Muros to Ria de Arousa meant engines on for most of the time. We headed to Pobra Marina ( E54.55pn) and were waved to a berth on the outside of the pontoon by a marinero. There is a nice beach stretching round the bay but the sea front is relatively uninteresting. The house and streets behind the sea front however are more interesting with alleys and small squares with cafes, bars and restaurants. Crowds wander round in the evening choosing places to eat. We found good tapas at reasonable prices (but avoid what turned out to be shrimps with turnip tops!- not our best choice). We had intended to visit an anchorage on Isle d’Arousa as we left but the mist came down limiting visibility to around 100m so we passed on that and felt our way out of the Ria between the mussel rafts. These are everywhere in the Rias but are not really an issue if you are careful, they are roughly marked by dotted lines on our charts but were easy to see, just have to go round them. We noticed that whilst this was a major industry for the area we seldom saw mussels for sale in any of the bars or restaurants we frequented, must all be exported.
