Cascais (Humm!)

Chris

We left Nazare at 6.00am and motor sailed in light winds, the trip was fairly uneventful with us arriving around 4.30pm having covered c 60 miles, just the normal increase in wind speed as we rounded the last headland – 15 to 34 knots in a few seconds, luckily we were prepared.
We had considered anchoring in the bay at Cascais but as Chris had visited here 6 years ago and really liked the town we thought it would be easier to visit from the marina. This was a mistake. The marina has a reputation for being snooty and expensive, it is both and it’s definitely not good value. They charged us E87, the highest charge we have ever had on Splice, the wifi didn’t work and there was no paper in the gents loos. It was an OK marina but not that special, when I commented to reception the response was - ”you can write to the management” – a sure sign that the management don’t care!
To make matters worse the town is not as nice, it’s still very attractive and has a buzz but everywhere you go you are now approached by restaurant touts trying to get you into their establishments. We had an average meal in and ‘Indian/Italian’ place and strolled around but the constant badgering was annoying.
We left as soon as we were ready the next morning and won’t be going back.
The pic is of Cascais Bay, a good anchorage, we should have gone there!
