On passage to Barbate we passed by Cabo Trafalgar. In the seas off Trafalgar on 21st October 1805 one of the most famous sea battles in British history took place. Vice Admiral Nelson with 27 British ships faced 33 ships of the combined French and Spanish fleets. Nelson's tactics inflicted a major defeat on Napoleons fleet, sinking 18 of their ships without a British ship lost. The victory prevented Napoleon attacking Britain and contributed to his eventual defeat. Reported numbers seem to vary but over 3500 sailors on both sides lost their lives on that day, including Nelson. Historic waters!
