Ibiza – Cala Bassa/San Antonio

On Friday we decided to set off for Ibiza even though the forecast was no wind. This time it was completely right, we had to motor the whole 9 hours 30 minutes. A straightforward crossing but with generally cold and grey weather. Had to dodge a few fishing boats but otherwise no issues. We anchored in Cala Bassa on the west side of the island (you have to work out where the wind and swell are coming from and find a sheltered spot. It’s a lovely bay with a sandy beach at its head. We shared the bay with three other yachts overnight and had a comfortable stay. The next day we dinghied to the beach, wandered about and had a coffee in the beach club which owns the beach area. Reasonable coffee but we thought we were back in the UK when the bill came, 8 euros! - around here two coffees is normally 2 or 3 euros.
That afternoon we made the short trip to San Antonio which is the major town on this coast because it has a good harbour and stronger winds were forecast (they didn’t actually happen). It’s a large harbour with good shelter all round and we were fine at anchor here though we were told we would have had to move on as they were laying bouys for the summer season the following week. It’s very much a tourist town and we were unimpressed when we went ashore and had a stroll about. We did find a good meal in a French style place ‘Bistro de Stephan’ on Carrer del Bisbe torres just off the front. Very good food but rather pricey.
On Sunday we just relaxed on board entertained by the local Half-Marathon finishing on the front just by us, and doing some maintenance work.
