Cala Mitjana (again)/Birthday girl

16 June 2016 | Cala Mitjana
C&C
We made the short trip to Cala Mitjana intending only to stay for coffee but were there in time to get ourselves almost exactly the same spot as our previous visit, so after an hour or so decided to stay over the night. It was a lot more crowded this time with 8 or 9 small boats and at one point four larger yachts including ourselves. Mitch and Ben spent a good while in the water and Chris snorkeled along the rocks to the beach and back fortunately there weren’t any jelly fish this visit, even Carolyn went in for a swim (first of the year!!) although the water was actually colder than the previous Calas. Mitch also donned the mini B scuba kit to remove the barnacles and weed from Splice’s propeller which will also help increase our speed. We relaxed and read, the weather was lovely and the Cala is really beautiful in the sunshine. By around five o’clock there were only smaller boats further into the cala but a large charter cat with 6 German men was anchored just in front of us. Chris had noted that they had put down very little chain in a deeper part of the bay and was concerned about them dragging in the night as they were only a few feet from our bow. He took the dinghy over to talk to them (they spoke some English luckily) and persuaded them that once the small ‘dayboats’ had left they should move further into the Cala behind us and copy our line to the shore. This they did and we both had a safer, comfortable night.
The next day was Carolyn’s birthday and breakfast included cards brought from home by Mitch and presents that had somehow been sneaked aboard. There were also a number of good wishes on Facebook and the like, Carolyn would like to say thanks to all those who thought of her on the day.
We picked up the stern anchor we had deployed overnight, released our stern line from the bollard on the rocks and raised our ‘bower (main) anchor’ around 11.00 hrs and made the short passage to Porto Cristo.
