Cala de Paragnuana

C&C

In very light winds we crossed back over the 12 miles of the Straits of Bonafacio to a small Cala less than a mile to the west of Bonafacio. Cala de Paragnuana is a fairly narrow cut into the Corsican coast with a shallow area at its head but deeper waters for much of its length.
There was another cat and a motor-boat there when we arrived giving us plenty of room to drop anchor in 4 meters of water. We took Fizz for a spin around the Cala and enjoyed poking into a very narrow cut under the cliffs until the kayak was pretty much in the ‘cave’. We spent a relaxed night here as the wind was light and we were drifting around above our own anchor. A couple of other cats came in overnight but there was space for us all.
The next morning Chris started to do his normal stretches and exercises in the saloon and was surprised to do the first ‘sit-up’ and find himself face to face with a cricket on top of the rubbish bin. We trapped him with a glass and tried to work out how he got on board as we were 100 meters plus from the shore and had been on buoys or at anchor for a number of days. We can only conclude that a bird had dropped him and that ‘Charlie’ had a lucky escape! He spent the day in his glass under the shelter of the helm seat as we didn’t want to have to drop the dinghy or re-inflate Fizz to move him on. A good anchorage in easterly or northerly winds and a nice place to spend a night.
