‘Big Birthday’ Celebrations (2)
03 October 2016 | Bonafacio, Corsica
That evening we had booked a restaurant in the old town for a meal and so made the climb up there around 19.30.
We sat at a table on the front patio of the ‘Trattoria L’Archivolto’ in the warm evening and had a very good meal – a shared ‘tomato tatin’ starter followed by lamb shanks, we even had a dessert pavlova with dark berries and almonds, all local home cooked produce and delicious, washed down with Corsican red wine.
The hostess was a past sailor so we chatted about her experiences and she gave us a liqueur she called ‘Mert’ to try. We established it was made from berries and thought this was Myrtle – our later research confirmed that Myrtle berries do form the base for a traditional Corsican liqueur . It tasted good though. We strolled back down the hill to Splice feeling very replete!
