Eufimia

Eufimia is a good sized harbour on the east coast of Kephalonia, our first visit to the land of Captain Correlli. We had planned to go on the quay here but even though we arrived before midday the harbour master refused as everything was booked. We suspect all the flotillas wanted to come in as England were playing Colombia that night.
As it turned out the high quayside would have made it difficult to get off Splice’s stern and we were better off at anchor even despite there being multiple idiots in the harbour that night. The prize out of a classic display for stupidity went to two Irish crewed boats who were trying to raft their craft together whilst swinging at anchor in a very crowded windy bay with a changing forecast. As they were next to us Chris explained how tangled their anchor would be the next day and they desisted. For the first time we actually put all our fenders out whilst at anchor!
The harbour has good facilities with a number of stores and a laundry and a good place to leave the dinghy. We had explored the various establishments and decided to eat and watch the game at ‘The Local’ who reserved a table for us near the TV. We had a pleasant meal of their special - slow cooked pork – before the game started which we enjoyed. Chris then got stressed watching England whilst Carolyn made friends with a nice older English couple at the next table, she probably had the more relaxed evening but it ended well all round.
The next day most of the invasion fleet left the harbour and we stayed to get the washing done and catch up on things like the blog. Eufimia is a nice place and will use this as the pick-up point when son Josh and girlfriend Jen visit us in September.
