Vonitsa, Prevesa Marina and a summer break

07 August 2018 | Vonitsa
C&C
There is a good sized body of water/enclosed sea near Prevesa called the Gulf of Amvrakikos and we entered there to spend the last few days of this trip at the town of Vonitsa. We had strong winds pushing us down onto the town quay making it a lea shore so decided to divert the short distance to an adjacent anchorage with more shelter. There is a wooded island to the west of the town that has been joined to the mainland by a causeway bridge. It has become the promenading walk for the locals and visitors alike and enables boats to anchor behind the shelter this creates. We spent three days here, strong northerlies made it a bit exposed for one afternoon but otherwise it was comfortable and we were able to walk the 20 minutes into town to explore.

Vonitsa is a small holiday town but even in August it wasn't that busy, most of the visitors seemed to be Greek other than the yachtsmen and there were far too many tavernas for the visitor numbers we saw. Nevertheless its a pleasant town with a nice quay and a 15th century origin castle perched above the place. We climbed to the castle, paying the two Euros entry price to a very chatty (probably bored) local and were the only tourists whilst we were there. We ate lamb chops on the quay at a fairly basic taverna but the food was good even if the wine was a bit rough!

We then motored made it back through the Levkas canal, spent one night at anchor just of the town of Prevesa and then entered the marina around 11.00 hrs the next morning. We spent a couple of days tidying Splice up and chatting to the nearby boats and then caught a flight back to the UK.

We return to Prevesa at the end of August so the blog will now have an intermission until September. Apologies for the delays in recent postings, they have been written but we have had problems with both our PC and the data connection which made uploading them very difficult
