We motored around the corner into Lavrion the next morning having arranged by text for Grant & Les to meet us and take our lines. This worked out well and we secured to the stubby quay in the centre of the harbour with their help.
Their catamaran 'Cattiva' was still on the hard waiting for launch so we started that evening with drinks on their rental 'penthouse' patio overlooking the town before enjoying a wonderful fish dinner together at a very basic taverna next to the fish market. They were due to launch by crane the next morning at 10.30 and we hurried to do the stocking up so as to be ready to help.
A hot and sweaty Splice crew were on standby at the appointed time but this was Greece and nothing was happening yet. The planned time gradually drifted back until it became clear that the crane had broken. When they eventually lifted and were put in the water around 19.30 we were alert to jump up and take their mooring lines but they stayed tied to the other side of the harbour for a long time. It clearly wasn't their day, the engines were working but the propellers were not! A night tied to the shipping quay and then a lift back onto the hard was necessary. (It took over a week for new props to be supplied but Cattiva eventually launched and are now sailing again).
Cattiva eventually 'splashes' but soon found a problem
We liked the atmosphere on this quay at Lavrion, George the manager was friendly and helpful and there are good stores for stocking up for our guests arrival. Whilst we had heard some negative things about attitudes there this was a good place to spend a couple of days.
