Platis Gialos - Sifnos
29 August 2021
C&C
We stayed a week in Paroikia whilst the winds blew through and were glad to lift the anchor and head south towards the island of Sinos. We had visited before and chose to stop in a new bay this time on the south east coast.
Platis Gialos is an open bay with the small settlement built directly onto the beach, the road runs behind the buildings but most access is from the sand. It seems to be a Sifnos thing as we saw the same approach at Vathi on the other side of the island. It does make for a relaxed and pretty place. Our sail had been downwind in a F4/5 with the genoa out, we arrived around 14.15hrs and dropped anchor in the middle of the bay away from the small harbour where a number of other boats were competing for space.
We spent the later afternoon ashore wandering along the beach as the swell in the bay was a bit uncomfortable. We had a pleasant few hours sitting in a beach bar and then finding a table in our second choice restaurant... it's still really busy, everywhere is crowded. We couldn't fault the food and service and would be very happy to eat there again, look for 'Maiolica' if you are in the area. Expensive for Greek places but the quality was there.
Overnight was OK but the swell was such that we decided to move on in the morning.
