BIG CATCH UP
12 August 2015 | Astakos
Overcast and hot 29°
Well I certainly have fallen behind with this blog so will do a big catch up and get right up to date. We left Poros on 4th July and headed straight for the Corinth Canal it was a very hot day with very little wind, once through we motored straight to to a bay that we thought would give us good shelter but there was very little room so we motored around to the next option in the pilot book but were chased off by port security for the mining company, so third option was across the bay getting there just on dusk. A big day so a quick bite to eat then off to bed. The next morning we motored to Ormos Isidhorou this was a lovely bay that is a holiday spot for Athenians the water was lovely and we spent a day swimming and relaxing. Next we headed to Itea where we stayed on the town pier for 2 nights as we wanted to go to Delphi the home of the Oracle, well worth the effort. Then it was off to Trizonia for a night, really lovely little island just off the coast of the mainland. We then managed to catch some wind and motored as well to Messalonghi where we were leaving Split Enz while we went home to NZ to meet our new Grandson. We had a lovely 3 weeks with Emma and Aadjan and lots of cuddles with Lachie, and also managed to catch up with some friends. This is the first winter that we have experienced in 3yrs and luckily for us we missed the cold snap and had quite mild weather. Must admit it was very hard saying goodbye to Lachie such a cute wee dude.
We flew out of Auckland on 4th August for the long journey back to Split Enz, we had a 20hr layover in Singapore due to a bit of a Stuff up with our flights so had to go through customs with our bags. The airport hotels were all full and rather expensive so we managed to get a hotel in the "red light" district for a reasonable price. We caught a taxi after leaving some of our luggage in the airport storage, the taxi driver told us we were headed for the "lady boy" area and were we sure we wanted to go there. The hotel was clean but the mattress was covered in vinyl a fair indication of the hotels main sort of clientele. We managed to get a few hours sleep and have a shower and change of clothes then went for a walk and had some lunch before heading back to the airport. The second half of our tip was long and we arrived at the Marina some 15 hrs after leaving Singapore. We slept for about 12 hrs that night to tired to even have dinner, but it must have done us some good as we both feel that we recovered rather quickly with very little "jet lag ". After shopping for food we left the Marina and have been sailing and motoring since, currently we are moored at Astakos on mainland Greece.
