26 August 2015 | Messolonghi
We left Messolonghi Marina on the 8th August and headed for a bay that we have renamed mosquito bay (Ormos Oxios) on the mainland it is where Greece's longest river Akheloos empties into the sea. It was a lovely spot so we stayed 2 nights we met a very nice Australian couple Allen and Gloria from Adelaide they invited us over for drinks. They had a lovely brand new Beneteau 55 it was so light and airy inside, mostly white with a little wood. Gloria said that they were inspired by a X-Boat that they had seen owned by another Australian couple they had met. We smiled when we heard that they were talking about the double D's off Solero, the world is a small place sometimes. At the suggestion of Allen and Gloria we decided to go up the river a wee way in the dingy but we had only just got to the mouth of the river before we realized the the glue holding the transom on the back of the dingy was starting to delaminate So we high tailed it back to Split Enz and lifted the motor off and headed for Astokos where we anchored for the night . We rowed ashore the next morning and found a hardware type store and Steve was able to buy some nuts bolts and washers as he had come up with a good plan to repair the dingy. The next morning we motored 3 miles up the coast to a gorgeous little bay called Ormos Marathia, it was really lovely, nice and quiet except for a few campers on the beach. Steve was able to repair the dingy so she lives to work another day. The next day we relaxed (in as much as Steve knows how to do that) swimming, sleeping etc.
14th August we headed for Vathi on the island of Ithaca Stopping at "One House Bay" (Nisos Atoko) for lunch, what a beautiful spot the water was Chrystal clear and the most beautiful colour we had 2 great nights exploring the town and drinking lots of iced coffees then it was back to Messolonghi where we anchored in the bay for the night before heading into the marina to pickup our guests Anna & Paul Higgins.
