2nd September was our 2nd night in Lâaka on Paxoi we had a British couple Brian and Norma from Ginevra on board for a drink and we swapped tales and information on good places to visit, had a quiet evening on board as we planned to leave early the next morning so that we could get a mooring at Gaios.
3rd September we tried anchoring in the bay outside the mole but on checking the anchor Steve discovered that we were in rocky ground and the only thing holding us was the chain wrapped around a large rock so we decided to head into the town and go on the town pier. We had 2 lovely nights here exploring the village, such a lovely town, we were moored next to an Italian yacht that was preparing to winterize and they asked us if we wanted their two stroke fuel for the dingy, we had just run out so we gratefully accepted what a good score.
5th September we headed for Lefkas and decided to stay on the town pier for 2 nights it's a very interesting town, a working town that doesn't close down over the winter, so is not just reliant on the summer tourists. Steve got out the bikes and we rode down to the bridge at the head of the canal and visited a fort that dates back to the 13th century then rode around to the beach, unfortunately we didn't bring our bathers as a dip would have been a relief it was so hot so we headed back to town to find a shady spot and a cold drink. Decided to have dinner in town that night nice not to cook. Must say we enjoyed our time in Lefkada and we're glad that we stopped. We saw a Jenneau just like ours on the town pier it had been confiscated by the police apparently it was being used for drug running it was in a bad way and was very sad to see.
11th September we motored to Ormos Vlikho where we finally managed to catch up With Dee and Dave Keavey off Solero it was great to see them we had them on board for dinner that night and caught up with all the news. The next morning I woke up with the start of a sore throat which developed into a sinus and bronchial infection, also we had some bad weather heading our way, so we decided to hunker down for a few days and catch up with some chores we managed to get 2 loads of washing done at the yacht club. We waved goodbye to Dee and Dave as they had guests onboard and needed to get to their next destination before the bad weather arrived. We got the washing dry and saw a boat anchored in front of us that we had been following on sailblogs so decided to go over and introduce ourselves to Jim on Nanjo had a lovely chat, it's always nice to meet in person. We returned to Split Enz just as the rain started. The funniest thing as Steve saw this as an opportunity with all this free fresh water so there he was out in the pouring rain scrubbing down the boat 😂👏. That night the wind came in and Steve was on anchor watch we had gusts of 40 knot and boats were going backwards all over the place, it settled down after a couple of hours and we managed to get a good nights sleep the weather was still not so good so was nice to just relax go ashore for coffee and managed to update the library and swap some books.
11th September we motor sailed to Ormos Varko on the mainland where we anchored for one night. Steve topped up the batteries with water and we swam and sun baked
12 September we motor sailed across to Ormos Kapali on the island of Meganisi where we stern tied, what a lovely little bay.
13 September we we walked over the hill to the village of Vathi in the next bay had a coffee and topped up our provisions would loved to have stayed but the but the house batteries need a good charge so we set off and circumnavigated the island of Meganisi and are currently Anchored in Ormos Vlikho Lefkas. We went ashore to taverna Elena for desert and coffee after dinner last night, nice people and great food and really good internet we even manage to get it on the boat, like all yachties we always take advantage of free internet😀. Had some wonderful news today My Brother Paul has got engaged to His lovely lady Louise, so happy for them both.
14th September today we intend to start heading south maybe towards Ithica not sure where we will end up yet so will leave that for another update
