Starbright: 1 Johnstone Strait: 0

14 June 2017 | Lagoon Cove Marina - E Cracoft Island
Steve / Overcast, drizzle, building SE wind
Well, we met the mighty and infamous Johnstone Strait today. We decided to scoot for the Broughton's ahead of a fierce gale. It was expected to build to 25 Knots this afternoon and will be 35-45 knots tomorrow with an inch of rain. We left at 0-dark-thirty, caught the 15 knot winds from behind, and scooted the 13 miles before the seas started to build much. So, after a total of 34 miles in just under 6 hours, we are in the Broughton Islands! We'll stay at Lagoon Cove tonight and tomorrow to wait out the blow. Nice hike this eto the top of the hill over the cove and now have to be pretty careful with the Biscuit as we are in Grizzly and Cougar country who have cubs this time of year. We encountered a boat in Chatham Channel who we were following through and they had transmission failure partway through the channel so we followed them in while they side towed the boat with their dinghy. Good to be in a marina for the coming blow where he can work on the problem.
