Holed up in Brighton

We are now in Brighton. We made it to Eastbourne last night after a long challenging headed sail from Ramsgate. We initially had a fast sail from Ramsgate to Dover & passed Dover with no issues or incidents but then we had wind & tide against to Dungeness & then onto Eastbourne. It was quite bumpy & windy & so after 12 hours we arrived at 1800 feeling quite tired. The highlight of the trip was seeing two common dolphins as we went round Dover & then in Rye Bay we were checked out by a large dolphin or porpoise who swam around the boat a few times presumbly sussing out whether we were a fishing boat with food. So we set off today at about 0800 aiming for Cowes but with wind & tide against & the prospect of heavy rain, we pulled in to Brighton. Here we have re fuelled & got some provisions (principally Soda water for scotch !), dodged the rain in Cafe Rouge & will set off early tomorrow for Cowes ~ 50 nms through the Looe channel. All is well on board except I cant shift a very weird head cold. Love & best wishes Mike, Midge & Tony

Scotch & soda in Ramsgate

After An early start at 0530 this morning we have had a good sail down to Ramsgate arriving at about 14:00. The wind helped us along a bit today but died away leaving us to motor the last 15 miles or so - but a good passage nonetheless down Black Deep & Fishermans Gat.

Weather forecast

Hve been looking at the weather forecasts for w/c17 August - they keep changing markedly day by day - today's forecast for 17.8 is good though with a 20 kts northerly wind - that would be very good for getting down to Ramsgate/Dover

Getting ready for the push off

So I'm just getting my mind round the push off on Sunday 16th August for the trip down to the Isles of Scilly. The boat is pretty much ready to go bar a fix to the tricolour light (which hopefully wont prove to be too difficult) and a bit of a tidy up & re-organisation to create some space.

Mike - raining hard
So I'm just getting my mind round the push off on Sunday 16th August for the trip down to the Isles of Scilly. The boat is pretty much ready to go bar a fix to the tricolour light (which hopefully wont prove to be too difficult) and a bit of a tidy up & re-organisation to create some space.

Low water is early on Monday which is good so if we get going at around 05:30 we will have the tide with us for most of the way across the Thames Estuary and to our first stop over which will be Ramsgate.

Will look at the weather forecast to see what we are in for.

Cheers for now

Mike
