Sailing Starfire

Voyaging in the Pacific

Charming Chamela

Friday 1/27
We had perfect wind, sun, and relatively flat seas as we sailed through Banderas Bay leaving La Cruz midday yesterday, passing another humpback whale on our starboard side.
Later, it was fun to see the Southern Cross constellation come up and think about those sailors that didn’t have all of these fancy electronics to rely ( too heavily) upon!

Our overnight timing worked out, arriving into Chamela Bay at the crack of dawn to the familiar smell of burning plastic!
That’s one of our struggles with Mexico and why we try to be a lot more conservative with our trash as well as where we drop it off-knowing that it’s simply going to be dumped and burned somewhere.

A lone panga with a few fisherman heading out- has such a wide entrance to the bay but very deliberately comes straight across our bow, such that we have to make a very sharp turn to avoid hitting them! Of course, this being their home and their game, you smile and wave as they fly by. But why??
Of note: we are landing in our favorite bay, exactly one month after we left San Pedro! Seems like a really long time!
