We spent last night and the night before in West Yellowstone, MT, so that we could take Grant through the park, at least to see Old Faithful... and so it started two days ago. First, there was a flat shining river filled with small stones and fly fishermen, with a trumpeter swan wading about, then there were elk across the next bend of the river by the roadside, then there were buffalo scratching themselves on rocks and crossing in front of our car, then there were geysers and a coyote, boiling mudpots and Old Faithful, then finally there was a grizzly bear and her two cubs -- we didn't get quite so close to them as to the others!
So, it was a very fruitful day, we saw a lot of wildlife... Derek may even have seen a pika crossing the road like a little furry blur at one point :-)
Last night we had dinner at Sydney's Mountain Bistro in the town of West Yellowstone, MT; very tasty, Derek and Grant had the butternut squash ravioli. The next morning, this morning, we went to the Running Bear Pancake House, also in W Yellowstone. Wow, people who really put the blueberries INSIDE their blueberry pancakes! That was some kind of tasty brunch. Then tonight we were in Lander, WY, for dinner. We were thinking of going to CowFish, which is the "nice" restaurant there, but we went to Tony's Pizza instead, as we found it first and it looked wholesome and popular. It was fun and excellent, with friendly service and reasonable prices. I will post more Yellowstone images if this thing will let me!
