The Kayakmobile Arrives!

18 October 2010 | Pensacola At Last
Heather/scattered dark with occasional light toward morning
We arrived! We left Colorado Springs (friendly and nice Best Western) Friday morning (see picture) and stopped at Amarillo overnight (Drury Inn, pet-friendly and great location, nice folks, but the air outside smelled like cattle pens), then the next night in Fort Smith, AR (the laundry room was handy, but this was the least nice Best Western of the trip), Sunday night in Vicksburg, MS (La Quinta, also pet-friendly and very reasonable price for a HUGE room. We went accidentally to the best place we could have, Rowdy's Family Restaurant in Vicksburg, with catfish plates and AWESOME hush puppies: http://www.discoverourtown.com/webs/vicksburgms/rowdys/ Amazing! Had the free La Quinta breakfast and got on the road with all due haste, making it to Pensacola before sundown... Wow!!! It's warm and lovely down here!

Vessel Name: Parallax
Vessel Make/Model: 37' Prout Snowgoose (1982)
Hailing Port: Pensacola
Crew: Derek, Heather and Grant
About:
Two astronomers, looking for variable stars and adventure. After cruising the Caribbean aboard S/V Paradox for 18 months in the early 90s, the crew swallowed the anchor and had a child, always planning their next Great Adventure: cruising under sail with Grant, showing him the world. [...]
Extra:
We knew that if we ever got a catamaran, we'd want a name to celebrate her twin-hulledness. Parallax is seeing the same thing from two slightly different points of view, which with our two eyes is what gives humans our depth perception. It's also a good metaphor for one of the benefits of marriage. [...]
