Thanksgiving trip

21 November 2010 | Sarasota
Heather / sunny, 80s
We're in a condo at the S end of Anna Maria Island. The grounds are nice and the view from our lanai is lovely...

Visit to Grandma and Grandpa began with brunch at the clubhouse. Very nice - and better still because of the company!

We also got a morning at the beach on Anna Maria; it was warmer than Pensacola, but the water has turned cool enough over the last month that I couldn't go in past my ankles. Derek and Grant managed it, however, after some suitable basking to warm up. Notice how Derek protects his head from the sun, at least.

I know the guys look tiny in this, just wanted to show the lovely sea and sky and how uncrowded the Anna Maria beach is in late November!
Derek and Grant actually went in up to their hips!
Later, having not "had too much of water," Grant headed for the pool at Grandma and Grandpa's place...

Finally, in the evening, some hobbies (courtesy of Grandma) with Dad and Grandpa,
Laci, Grant, Derek and the album
and some catching up on Calvert courses. Love that portable schooling!

After a wonderful Thanksgiving meal courtesy Grandma,
Grandma!
and some family celebrations (birthdays and an anniversary), we head home on Saturday. THANK YOU, Grandma and Grandpa!

Vessel Name: Parallax
Vessel Make/Model: 37' Prout Snowgoose (1982)
Hailing Port: Pensacola
Crew: Derek, Heather and Grant
About:
Two astronomers, looking for variable stars and adventure. After cruising the Caribbean aboard S/V Paradox for 18 months in the early 90s, the crew swallowed the anchor and had a child, always planning their next Great Adventure: cruising under sail with Grant, showing him the world. [...]
Extra:
We knew that if we ever got a catamaran, we'd want a name to celebrate her twin-hulledness. Parallax is seeing the same thing from two slightly different points of view, which with our two eyes is what gives humans our depth perception. It's also a good metaphor for one of the benefits of marriage. [...]
