Fiddler's Green

Heather/ sunny and 65F
Shantyman par excellence, Steve Lewis, passed on 2/11/2011 after a long and fruitful life, much learning, much shared music and fellowship, glory, love, and honor. He lived with cancer for the last year of his life, and was able to make all his arrangements and say his farewells.

May the sun shine gently and the breezes blow softly and the stirring and beautiful singing never cease where he has gone.

Wrap me up in me oilskins and jumper
No more on the docks I'll be seen
Just tell me old shipmates, I'm taking a trip mates
And I'll see you someday on Fiddlers Green

Steve Lewis, Shantyman and Arctic oceanographer, RIP 2/11/2011

Vessel Name: Parallax
Vessel Make/Model: 37' Prout Snowgoose (1982)
Hailing Port: Pensacola
Crew: Derek, Heather and Grant
About:
Two astronomers, looking for variable stars and adventure. After cruising the Caribbean aboard S/V Paradox for 18 months in the early 90s, the crew swallowed the anchor and had a child, always planning their next Great Adventure: cruising under sail with Grant, showing him the world. [...]
Extra:
We knew that if we ever got a catamaran, we'd want a name to celebrate her twin-hulledness. Parallax is seeing the same thing from two slightly different points of view, which with our two eyes is what gives humans our depth perception. It's also a good metaphor for one of the benefits of marriage. [...]
